Ohio Attorney General visits to learn more about autism & social-emotional supports

Mr. DeWine visited with students at the summer Camp-I-Can program. While members of the Loveland High School varsity soccer team were working with boys in a soccer clinic on the grounds of the campus, DeWine also stopped by the Lower School where a local girl scout troop was engaged with the girls’ groups and singing songs.

President and CEO John Banchy spoke with DeWine about the services provided by The Children’s Home of Cincinnati. DeWine was interested in the holistic approach the agency takes to work with children in poverty who may not have proper medical care, particularly in psychological care. DeWine expressed keen interest in the autism services provided by the agency.

“The prevalence of autism continues to grow,” said DeWine. He added, “As we look to the future of this state, I think, it will depend on how we reach the kids with autism, psychological and emotional issues.”

While DeWine has not visited the campus before, he admits he’s heard a lot about the work of The Children’s Home of Cincinnati.

He said the services provided by The Children’s Home of Cincinnati may be an example that could be used throughout the state.

After touring the Madisonville campus, DeWine met with agency leaders to discuss supports for early childhood development to help with autism and other social-emotional issues.
