BENGALS WINGS AND THINGS A SURPRISE FOR THE CHILDREN’S HOME OF CINCINNATI

Cincinnati, OH – Wings, football and friends are the perfect way to spend an afternoon. At 5:57 p.m. on December 31, the Buffalo Bills sent a message through their Twitter account to the Bengals “Wings on us. (No really, we’re sending wings.)”

And they meant it.

Today, the Bengals’ Eric Ball and George Iloka brought wings and gear to The Children’s Home of Cincinnati. The wings were delivered by Duff’s Famous Wings – yes, from Buffalo, New York.

Iloka, Bengals safety, arrived at noon to serve up over 1,400 wings, 90 pounds of celery, 30 pounds of carrots, 6 gallons of bleu cheese dressing and 9 gallons of Duff’s wing sauce to students from The Children’s Home of Cincinnati. As the students from the Autism program made their way through the line they each received a Bengals ball cap, which Iloka was more than happy to autograph.

After serving the autism high school students, Iloka went down the hall to the preschool. He entered the room with carrots, celery and, of course, wings. The cheers of “oooh,” “yea!” and “yummy” rang forth as he walked in. Within a few minutes little faces were smeared with honey BBQ sauces and teeth were crunching carrots. The Bengals safety lowered his 6’4” frame into one of the 10.5” preschool chairs with his plate of wings and began chatting with the students. All at once they introduced themselves in a cacophony of excited voices. He was now “George” spending his football time with wings and friends.

“The Bengals provided a gift to the Buffalo Bills in the form of a playoff berth by defeating the Baltimore Ravens. Today, The Children’s Home is pleased to be on the receiving end of this generosity as the Bengals and Buffalo Bills have chosen us to share in the fun,” said John Banchy, President and CEO of The Children’s Home of Cincinnati.

Gregory Duell, owner of Duff’s Famous Wings, said it was worth the eight-hour drive to see the faces of the kids. As some of the students came back for a second round, members of the staff joined in the fun.

“It’s just really cool that a disappointing situation turned into something big and real good for the community,” Iloka said between autographing hats before he went back to serving the wings.
