Here is a list of role descriptions for our various volunteer opportunities.

  • Camp-I-Can - weekly gym activities

Pre-School

  • Early Childhood Greeters
    Volunteer will be responsible for manning the reception area, this will include welcoming guests, answering phone and organizing reception area. Also will assist with organizing classroom materials, mailings to families and other clerical type duties.
    Monday - Friday: 12 PM to 2:30 PM
    1-2 volunteers willing to support preschool a minimum of 2 days per week per volunteer
    Location: Preschool - 4550 Redbank
  • Home Visitation Program Support
    Volunteer will be responsible organizing and preparing home visitation materials – to include copying, collating, organization of supplies and preparing intake packets. Volunteer would also help with planning bi-annual graduation events for 3 year olds.
    Thursday / Friday: 9:30 AM - 12 PM
    Location: Parent Education - 5051 Duck Creek
  • Early Childhood School Family Night
    Provide/serve dinner to families and staff.
    Provide and complete a craft/activity with the children.

Elementary

  • STEM (hands on science activities) in Upper School and Lower School
    Fridays: 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM
  • Fun Friday
    Provide activity and supplies.
    Fridays: 12:00 PM - 1:45 PM

High School

  • STEM (hands on science activities) in Upper School and Lower School
    Fridays: 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM

Autism

  • Field Trips
  • Special Olympics Flag Football
    • 16 students, 2 staff minimum / 4 total adults desired
    • 2:45 PM - 4 PM
    • Suggested Student Donation: $25 (includes t-shirt)
    • Dates: 9/4, 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, School Day Game - 10/18
  • Special Olympics Track
    • 16 students, 2 staff minimum / 4 total adults desired
    • 2:45 PM - 4 PM
    • Suggested Student Donation: $25 (includes t-shirt)
    • Dates: 3/6, 3/13, 3/20, 4/3, 4/10, 4/17, 4/24, 5/1, 5/8, Track Meet: 5/11
  • Special Olympics Bocce Ball
    • 8 students, 2 staff minimum / 2 total adults desired
    • 2:45 PM - 4 PM
    • Suggested Student Donation: $25 (includes t-shirt)
    • Dates: 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, Competition - Saturday, 10/20
  • St. Ursula Unified Service Learning
    • 15 students, 2 staff minimum / 3 total adults desired
    • 2:45 PM - 4:30 PM
    • Suggested Student Donation: $25
    • Dates: 10/18, 11/5, 12/3, 1/14, 2/4, 3/4, 4/8, 5/6
  • Special Olympics Basketball
    • 16 students, 2 staff minimum / 4 total adults desired
    • 2:45 PM - 4 PM
    • Suggested Student Donation: $50 (includes t-shirt)
    • Dates: 1/15, 1/22, 1/29, 2/5, 2/12, 2/19, 2/26, 3/5, 3/12, School Day Game - 3/14, TBD - Weekend/Evenings - 3 games
  • Mount Notre Dame Unified Service Learning
    • 15 students, 2 staff minimum / 3 adults desired
    • 2:45 PM - 4:30 PM
    • Suggested Student Donation: $25
    • Dates: 10/16, 11/13, 12/4, 1/22, 2/19, 3/19, 4/16

Special Events

  • Judge Science Fair (April)
    Students are judged/graded following specific rubric.

  • Art Fair (May)
    Annually: 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Mock Interviews
    Volunteers interview students as if they are interviewing for an actual job.
    Scores are given following specific rubric.

Agency/Administrative

  • Front Desk Reception
    The primary objective of the Front Desk personnel is to maintain a positive image of The Children’s Home to clients, callers, visitors and guests through the responsibility of greeting or directing them.
    Primary Duties Include:
    • Operate the switchboard, greet and direct clients and visitors.
    • Provide general support to all agency staff including typing, working with spreadsheets and forms, faxing, copying, and special projects assigned.
    Times needed:
    • Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 12 PM & 12 PM to 4 PM
  • Lunchroom duty/supervision for students in grades K-8 (Emery Cafeteria)
    Daily: 10:45 AM - 12:00 PM
    Individual or Group (Max 2)
  • Assemble Breakfast Bags
    Milk, juice, cereal, etc. divided into bags sorted by building.
    Daily: 12:45 PM - 2:00 PM (+/-)
    Individual or Group
  • Children's Home Resource Center
    Unpack, organize, and update inventory as needed.
    Thursdays 2:00 AM - 4:00 PM: Help staff shop for needed items and log inventory.
  • Art Room Volunteer
    Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:00 AM - 1:30 PM
  • Lobby Nanny
    Entertain siblings of clients in waiting room by providing a craft, coloring, reading, etc.
    Tuesdays and Thursdays: Noon - 4:00 PM
  • Chess Club
