The Children's Home School: Grades K-8

The Children’s Home School is a state chartered, non-public, independent school for children with special educational needs. We provide an alternative academic placement for children in grades K-8 who have difficulty succeeding in traditional school settings due to social, behavioral or learning challenges. Children benefit from low teacher-to-student ratios and highly structured classes that focus on each student’s individual needs.

Each of our ten classrooms is staffed by a licensed teacher. Additional support staff provide instruction and individual assistance, and the school’s curriculum includes a social skills class that addresses the social, emotional and developmental difficulties of the children we educate. Every member of our school staff is specially trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, which helps to identify and manage the unique needs of our students. The school incorporates a behavior modification system that encourages each student to practice and internalize positive, effective behavior.

Special Features: Theater Arts Program

The Children’s Home School features a theater arts program designed to enhance student’s self-esteem, social skills, and appreciation of the arts. Every spring, students perform a play specially adapted to fit their social and educational needs and abilities. Students learn about and participate in every aspect of the play, from set design and lighting to costume fittings and on-stage rehearsal. Students perform over the course of one week to audiences consisting of family members, donors, Trustees, and staff. The Children’s Home is the only local therapeutic school with a theater arts program. Visit our photo gallery to view images from the most recent performance.
