![]() Stepparent/Relative/Private Attorney AdoptionThese types of adoptions are for families who are either already caring for the child they want to adopt, or are working with a private attorney to adopt an already identified child. To adopt a step-child or a relative you have already been caring for, a family assessment must be completed. This process includes required paperwork, reference and background checks, and a home visit with a social worker. Private Attorney adoption is for families working with a private attorney to adopt a specific child who is not related to them. The process includes meeting with a social worker to review paperwork and training requirements, a home visit and family interview, and adoption education classes.
