The Ohio Governor’s Council on People with Disabilities named John Langenderfer as the winner of the Maureen Fitzgerald Leadership Award for his leadership efforts and dedication to Ready 2 Work!, a work readiness program for young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This leadership award is meant to honor Maureen Fitzgerald, the founder of the Ohio Youth Leadership Forum (YLF). She loved empowering youth with disabilities to realize their potential. Maureen was a motivator to assure youth with disabilities were exposed to challenges and positive social interaction. Her leadership led to transformation changes to the youth whose lives she touched.

While working as a Senior Vice President in Healthcare at a major national bank, John, a board member of The Children’s Home of Cincinnati, created an opportunity to build the capacity of Ready 2 Work! and soar possibilities for individuals in the program to the next level. With an investment of countless hours and courageous effort, John lobbied with his company, to create the Autism Cincinnati Pilot Program. The pilot was created in 2014 and implemented in 2015 and the remarkable accomplishments continue for all involved.

John continues to work tirelessly as a change agent, to ensure a quality, replicable, and sustainable co-op program model for young adults with Autism that can be implemented at various work sites nationwide. His exemplary actions has created opportunities designed to change the outcome of lives of youth and young adults with ASD, restoring hope and possibility in a future of independence and self-sufficiency. His efforts have resulted in empowering youth with disabilities to realize their potential as well as positioned them to gain exposure to challenges and positive social interaction.
