Congratulations to Jefferson Award Winner Suzy DeYoung

We are proud to partner with Suzy DeYoung and La Soupe.
Suzy was awarded the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for Outstanding Service Benifitting Local Communities.
"Suzy DeYoung believed that if she could rescue food waste across Cincinnati, she could cook delicious, nutritious soup to feed the hungry." Last year, La Soupe cooked over 100,000 meals.
Last year, Lauren Lancaster, Director of Nutrition Council (a program of The Children's Home of Cincinnati), was trained in the Cincinnati Gives a Crock curriculum by La Soupe and provided a recipe collection. The Children's Home of Cincinnati piloted the crock curriculum in winter 2017 with nine upper school students. The students prepared meals to take home and cook in their crockpots. The students learned how to follow recipes, measure ingredients and basic food safety.
For the past 45 years, the Jefferson Awards Foundation has celebrated grassroots unsung heroes alongside national leaders in service. Our 2017 yearbook recognizes this year’s Jefferson Award winners who were selected to attend the 45th Jefferson Awards National Ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Headed by chef Suzy DeYoung, La Soupe is closing the gap between food waste and hunger. We rescue otherwise wasted produce to create delicious and highly-nutritious meals for customers, non-profits and food-insecure families.
In 2016 alone, La Soupe rescued 125,000 pounds of food from going to the landfill and donated over 95,000 servings to people living in food insecurity.
La Soupe is a Non Profit organization that relies on retail sales and individual donations to operate. Our exclusive partnerships with Kroger, Jungle Jims, Crosset, Sugar Creek, and various local organic farms allow us to share culinary magic with customers and service-organizations alike. Sales of the meals made from these rich ingredients fuel our donations to Cincinnati’s food-deprived individuals.
They welcome all to stop by and experience the magic at our “Soupe Shack” on Round Bottom Road in Newtown.
