Permanent, stable family environments are crucial to the healthy growth and development of all children. Our Adoption services are designed to help prepare children and prospective families to form lifelong bonds that result in strong, permanent relationships. Services are also available for those who have already experienced adoption.
Adoption: Support to Last a Lifetime
Our Adoption Support services prepare children and prospective parents for a successful start to their new "forever family." Those who have already experienced adoption can also receive supportive services during any point in their lifelong journey with adoption. Services include:
- Pre-Adoption Services: Children preparing to enter into a new family environment are more likely to succeed when they know what to expect. Prospective parents who understand the issues often triggered by adoption are better able to help children adjust to their new situations. Individual and family services that focus on adoption preparedness help children and prospective parents prepare for successful, permanent relationships.
- Post-Adoption Services: Adoptive children and families may continue to need supportive services long after adoptions have been finalized. We offer services to support adoptive families, birth families, and adopted children, including counseling, supportive groups, record reviews, and more. - Record Reviews: This service refers to requests for the release of adoption records. Adoption laws and the date of finalized adoptions determine the type of information allowed to be released. Individuals requesting information about a finalized adoption should email us or call (513) 272-2800. Click here to download our Record Review form.
All requests for information from an adoption file must be made in writing and be accompanied by two forms of identification. Information can only be released to adoptive parents, adopted adults (21+), birth parents or the descendents of those identified in accordance with the law.
- Individual and Family Adoption Counseling: Counseling services are provided to individuals and families dealing with issues related to adoption. Throughout life and at varying degrees, birth parents, adopted persons and adoptive parents often struggle with issues such as identity, loss, grief and rejection, guilt and shame, intimacy, and more. Whether or not your adoption took place through The Children’s Home, our skilled professionals are prepared to help anyone affected by adoption.
- Adoption Training: Free adoption trainings are offered for adoption professionals and adoptive parents, in collaboration with the Southwestern and Western Regional Training Centers and The Institute for Human Services. Click on any of the links below to view recently scheduled trainings. Adoptive families working with a public agency are given priority registration.
