GRADS

Graduation, Reality, and Dual-Rolls Skills (GRADS) is a family and consumer-sciences instructional and intervention program. Regular GRADS classes are supplemented with seminars and individual projects. The Children's Home provides such a supplemental service to area teens. Through our concentrated work with young parents, we are able to target their parenting attitudes around "Inappropriate Expectations of Children", "Parental Lack of Empathy", "Strong Belief in the Use of Corporal Punishment", "Reversing Parent-Child Roles", and "Oppressing Children's Power and Independence." By targeting these specific attitudes, we are able to concentrate the education in the area needing the most attention, thereby reducing the inappropriate expectations of young children and reducing their risk of beeing abused or neglected by a young parent.
